What Makes Tassel Clip-on Earrings So Popular?

Clip-on versions of tassel earrings have become popular even among those who do not usually wear clip earrings, mainly because the versatility and not necessarily the need to have clip on style due to not having pierced ears.

Long dangling colorful Tassel clip on earrings have become a fashion statement in recent years — the range of colors, length of earring, style, types of materials used and other factors make this style of earring so versatile and fashionable. Clip-on versions of this style of earring have become popular even among those who do not usually wear clip on earrings, mainly because the versatility and not necessarily the need to have clip on style due to not having pierced ears.

Some very long tassel earrings that have heavy metal chain as the dangling tassel material can be uncomfortable on an ear piercing by comparison to those that are made from cotton yarn or other light material, and if worn regularly can have a detrimental effect of elongating the piercing hole on the earlobe, causing an irritation, or even worse in some situations they can even cause a small tear in the lobe which can potentially lead to an infection.

This is an example of where a clip-on style can be an advantage even for someone who has pierced ears. The same advantage can often apply to long and very heavy chandelier style earrings as well, particularly those made from metal that include heavy natural gemstones.

Of course there are those women who do not have pierced ears, (estimated to be about 15–20% of women) and hence they specifically require clip on earrings and have also contributed to the popularity of tassel earrings overall.

Whilst Clip-on earrings were more popular from the Victorian era onwards, particularly at certain periods of time like the roaring twenties for example and during the 1950’s, through to the 1970’s when they almost faded away, does not mean that they are not still popular today. Granted they do not enjoy the popularity of yesteryear however they do still have a place in the jewelry boxes of many women today, including the younger set who recognise some of the advantages this style of earrings offer.
